The End of the Season

As soon as the Chili Off was over we headed up to the BVI’s North Sound to get the boat ready to haul out. On the way up we flushed out the tanks and once at Leverick Bay we pulled down the jib, cleared the decks of lights and dive gear, stowed fuel, water, and dive tanks, did a vinegar back flush of the engine cooling system and cleaned the decks. We soaked all the sail sheets in fabric softener to clean them and make them more manageable. Unfortunately we couldn’t clean the decks with fresh water as the islands have had very little rain so far this year. Leslie got a message in preparation for the task of hauling out.

We motored to Spanish Town and got hauled and blocked. They had to drive sand anchors in using a sledge hammer as their drilling machine was not working. Once blocked up we fresh water flushed the engines and changed all the oils and checked all the zincs. Leslie painted the boot stripe and cleaned the inside of the boat. We tied up all the lines and main sail.

The fire pit at Coco Maya

We rewarded ourselves with a dinner at Coco Maya. It is a beautiful restaurant on the beach not far from the boatyard.

On Carl’s birthday the work was done and the boat ready for Tropical Storm Danny, which was on the way, so he went for a dive. He dove Ginger Steps behind Ginger Island, and Thumb Rock at the end of Cooper Island.
